No gatekeeping: I like these beauty products from Trader Joe’s more than my high-end products

I don’t know about you, but my 2024 budget is already looking meager. But for the first time, my skin care is not a problem. (Mocktail prices, however…)

My secret? Although Trader Joe’s is known for its seasonal snacks and frozen foods, its skin care is shockingly good at a reasonable price. Over the years, I’ve found some staples that I can’t get enough of. Their skin care products are all under $20 and slowly but surely they have replaced my higher end (and much more expensive) products.

These are the Trader Joe’s beauty products that I absolutely swear by. Here’s how to save your wallet from heartache in 2024.

Rose water facial toner

An oldie but a treat, I’ve had it in my bathroom since the days of Thayer’s Witch Hazel toner. This toner is always on Trader Joe’s shelves for a reason. It’s a versatile, hydrating mist that’s effective as part of your morning or evening skincare routine (best as the first step after cleansing), or as a boost of moisture throughout the day. The best part? For $3.99 you can keep one on your dressing table, in your purse, and on your desk.

Tea Tree Tingling Shampoo

Do you know the feeling of spicy, tingly lip fillers? This is not for your hair. Tea tree oil and peppermint are great for removing buildup on the scalp, so I use it as a clarifying shampoo every two weeks. It feels slightly tingly, but my hair and scalp immediately feel refreshed and squeaky clean afterwards. They also have a shampoo bar version if you want to reduce plastic use!

Fragrance-free body butter

For anyone interested in joining my dry skin support group, you will receive one of these body butters in your welcome bag. This body butter is newer on the scene (the scented Brazil nut version went viral this summer as an excuse for Sol de Janeiro’s Brazilian Bum Bum Cream). The fragrance-free version is just as smooth and hydrating and feels more practical for daily use. It doesn’t stick, provides my skin with deep moisture and leaves it glowing even in dry winter weather. I love an unscented lotion, but if you prefer a scent, TJ’s comes out with seasonal versions to look out for.

Ultra-moisturizing hand cream

During the cooler months, it’s important not to neglect your hands. Nobody wants cracked knuckles or peeling cuticles, and this hand cream will definitely prevent them. Nobody wants a greasy hand cream that leaves a residue, and this one is light and moisturizing without leaving an annoying, oily feeling. It absorbs so well and is so moisturizing that it encourages me to use it multiple times a day.

Jojoba oil

My mom absolutely swears by this super versatile oil. Jojoba oil is already included in many of my popular products, but with this 100% version you can moisturize your hair, skin and nails in one fell swoop. I use a small amount as a final step to hydrate all three and lock in the moisture. It’s super effective and feels luxurious, all at an unbeatable price.
